Dave, I've been here beforem and it's not worth saving a couple of dollars on wood. It will cost you far more to repair one blowout than to build it right the first time.
As for parts -- there's nothing really complicated about any DN parts seeing that the plans give you the detail and measurements. It doesn't sound like you plan to race so go for it. Have fun figuring it out. If something doesn't work -- buy it. If it does, be proud.
